Falling in Love

Back in March 2006 my wife and I went to Costa Rica to vacation and look at property in case some day we wanted to buy. We stayed in Tambor and looked there. Some nice views, but sleepy town, no surf and boring. (We did like the Tango Mar resort for a stay). After spending half the time on the beach and half the time with a realtor we were ready to give up, but did want to see Cabuya and Montezuma as it had nice properties and views (as seen on the internet). These places were ok, the towns very hippie, not a place we could see ourselves retiring to in the future. Our new realtor specialized in Mal Pais and wanted to take us there (just over the hills). We were tired and resisted, but he won out. As we drove down the back road and came into the southern part of Mal Pais our hopes were lifted and our energy levels shot up. This was absolutely beautiful and the kind of place we both were looking for, mountain views, long views down the coast, small private coves in Mal Pais, expansive white beaches and great surfing north a couple kilometers. We were in love and helpless. We looked at a number of properties and fell more in love with the great views each time. Despite what we promised, we ended up buying property that first trip. Our plan now, to build within about 5 years to retire early, within 10. But that is another blog. This will be mostly about our experiences and the places and things we love about Mal Pais. Perhaps a random visitor will find something useful, perhaps it will just drift about in the cyber universe waiting for me in our dream home in Mal Pais.
